why were darfurians killed?

The Sudanese Gornment along witht the Janjaweed participated in attacks targeting the the tribes in the Darfurregion. The conflict began in February 2003. Almost all of the victims in the attacks in Darfur are muslims.The government and Janjaweed attacked the civilians thus leading to many casualties on a range of hundreds to thousands.The United Nations(UN) estimates that the conflicts have left as many as 450,000 dead from violence and disease. In March 2007 the U.N. accused Sudan's government of takeing part in "gross violations"in Darfur and called for urgent international action to protect the civilians there. The conflict has many causes, wile enduring inequality between the center of the coyuntryaround the nile and Darfur, tension was increased in the last two decades of the 20th centuryby a combination of environmental calamity, political opportunism and regional politics. The British allowed Darfur autonomy until 1916 when they invaded the region into Sudan.
